Sony confirms the acquisition of Nixxes is to port PlayStation games to PC

By Keith MitchellJuly 28, 2021
PlayStation acquires Nixxes

A few months back, Sony has acquired the then PC-only company, Nixxes, to the surprise of the gaming industry. However, in my mind and knowing what Nixxes was all about, I assumed this was Sony’s way of having a developer who could focus on PC gaming ports, meaning Nixxes was acquired to port PlayStation games to PC. To which several people had laughed at me and told me to stop speculating over something I don’t know about. Well, I happen to know the history of Nixxes quite well, and PlayStation did say several times now that they were serious about being more games to the PC. What better company to do this than one who is familiar with the porting process to the PC?

However, it looks like all those who were laughing at me can eat crow, as PlayStation has officially confirmed that the reason they did acquire Nixxes was to bring more ports to the PC. In an interview with Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan made it clear what Nixxes was acquired.

This is what Jim Ryan had to say about Nixxes and plan for PlayStation PC ports:

We are also pleased with our efforts to provide IP to PCs, although we are still in the early stages, and we look forward to working with Nixxes*, to help us do so.

So there you have it. Nixxes will be the studio that’ll handle the PlayStation ports to the PC, as I had speculated once it was acquired. I’m glad to see that Jim Ryan has confirmed this, and I can’t wait to see what games will make their way to the PC first. But here’s to hoping that one of them is the rumored PC port of Bloodborne.
