Gamers who were overjoyed with a certain game release are now feeling the pain of loss. Over the weekend, NEO The World Ends With You was accidentally leaked and as a result, many gamers got the game and started to play it (including us here at The Outerhaven). However, one week out from release, Square Enix has rescinded that ability (despite it being out for days at this point) and gamers might be feeling the loss on multiple levels.
Because Square Enix revoked the licenses to the game, making it so that players aren’t able to play the game. That is, as one tipster noted, unless you were shutoff from wifi and in Airplane Mode:
If you had an early code of NEO: The World Ends With You, I hope you took my advice. Reports coming in saying Square/Nintendo are revoking licenses https://t.co/UmxYzAzWjj

The reason for this request was because of the fact that they revoked the codes via the accounts in question, and as such would need an internet connection to do that. Most gamers (including us) did not do that and thus we’re met with an error saying, “This User Cannot Play This Game”.
When Nintendo was contacted, they noted the following about recovery and data:
“Because the dl code was deleted from an account , it cannot be recovered. You would need to get a new code, and unfortunately, the save data would also be unusable as well due to the save data being associated to that game content.”
Now, to be clear, the game code comes from the Square Enix Store, so this could change, but at present, it’s not looking good. And it’s a shame because the game is only a week away from release and many have been noting how great the game is online. We’ll keep you posted if something changes.
