Nothing’s simple these days
PS5 fans have been awaiting the release of Ghost of Tsushima Directors Cut since it was announced a few days ago but not all the news was exactly what consumers wanted to hear. While the Directors Cut comes with a new island to explore, the island of Iki, among other in game items and some additional content such as a digital art book and directors commentary, the PS5 features for Ghost will be locked behind a paywall. The delivery of this system is a little muddled but I’ll break it down for you if you’re not in the loop already.
- If you have yet to buy Ghost of Tsushima you can pickup the Directors Cut on its own for $59.99 on PS4 and $69.99 on PS5.
- If you already own Ghost of Tsushima you can purchase the PS4 Directors Cut upgrade for $19.99. (PS5 users can play this version but it’ll be via backwards compatibility without the PS5 improvements)
- Again if you own Ghost of Tsushima You can purchase the PS5 version of the Directors Cut for $29.99.
- Finally if you purchased the PS4 version of the Directors cut and you later want to upgrade to the PS5 version it’ll cost you $9.99.
Full details about what comes with the Directors Cut can be found here on Sony’s blog.
As the title suggests the pre-order for Ghost of Tsushima Directors Cut is live on the PS store right now but the catch is only the PS4 version is available for pre-order. The PS5 version of the upgrade will not be available for purchase until August 20th this year which is an odd choice to say the least. Additionally Sony has removed the normal version of Ghost of Tsushima from the PS store and you can only buy the Directors cut now so if you wanted to play the main game first to see if the upgrade is worth your cash you will have to find a physical copy of the game.
The Sony PS5 upgrade path seems to be a bit of a muddled system at this time so fingers crossed that they can smooth the process out soon. If you would like more information on Ghost of Tsushima please feel free to check out our review from when it first came out here.
