If you’re one of the many who were asking if Elden Ring would feature some sort of co-op gameplay, it looks like you’re in luck. While Bandai Namco and Fromsoftware didn’t come out and say anything, the gameplay trailer sure the heck did.
While nearly every Fromsoftware game starting with Demon’s Souls featured a co-op element, I don’t expect Elden Ring to be any different. The only game that bucked the trend was Sekiro, and that was mainly due to it being originally designed as a Tenchu follow-up. But when it comes to the Soulsbornes games, co-op is always there, either for some jolly cooperation or if you’re a fiend who loves invasions.
In the Elden Ring gameplay trailer, during the 1:41 second mark, the player is holding a cube. While we don’t know the name of this cube, it summoned two blue characters into the game. Longtime fans of Dark Souls will recognize these summoned players as members of the Blue Sentinels covenant. And while we don’t know if covenants will exist in Elden Ring (there’s a good chance they will), these summoned players are similar.
Similarly, we didn’t see any red summons or invaders. Yet, if there’s a blue summons, the red summons can’t be far beyond.
What do you think about this? Are we just imagining things or is co-op/multiplayer going to be in Elden Ring? Let us know in the comments.
Elden Ring is due to launch on January 21st, 2022, on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC. That is if it doesn’t get delayed.
