Announced today via the PlayStation Blog, Sony has revealed the lineup of free games available to PlayStation Plus subscribers for the month of June.
These include the new espionage co-op game, Operation Tango, the just-announced yesterday Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown and 2020’s Dogfighting flight game Star Wars Squadrons.
All of the games will be available to add to your library starting June 1, 2021. Operation Tango is the PlayStation 5 game for the month, while Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown and Star Wars Squadrons are available to PlayStation 4 owners as well. Although remember even if you don’t currently own a PS5, if you login to your PlayStation Network account through the website you can still add it to your library through there, so that if you do eventually purchase the console, Operation Tango is available to you immediately.
A Little Info on Each Game
Operation Tango is a co-op indie title developed by Clever Plays and sees a team of two playing the roles of hacker and special agent in tandem to complete missions and solve puzzles. Depending on your chosen role, the other person on your team uses their voice to guide you in putting in special codes, disarming bombs, or other things. PlayStation itself put out a short video giving a brief glimpse of gameplay, which does feature online play as well.
You can also read more about the game via the PlayStation Blog or try out the demo for yourself on Steam. The demo also features Friend Pass so you can have another person play along with you.
The initial announcement of Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown, was covered by our very own Keith Mitchell. But to sum it up, this is a possible remake of Virtua Fighter 5 Showdown and is exclusive to the PS4 featuring a whole host of new things including updated graphics and even a spectator mode (you know like the podcast.)
Star Wars Squadrons was reviewed by our own Conner B, so he covers the game in full detail there. But to give a synopsis, the game is developed by the EA Motive team and features a short campaign mode where you can be Empire or The Rebels and you control, in first-person, one of the many flying vehicles the series has to offer. There is also a multiplayer mode for anyone just looking for a fun time with friends as well.
Closing Thoughts
Overall, this is a great lineup of games for the upcoming month of PS Plus. There’s a lot of variety between a brand new co-op game, a newly remade, or remastered next take in a beloved fighting game franchise from SEGA, and one of 2020’s best games period. So, there is a lot to look forward to and try out for PlayStation gamers come June 1.
