Demon Slayer: Mugen Train Continues to Print Money

By Josh PiedraMay 12, 2021

Demon Slayer: Mugen Train… just saying that name is enough to bring any anime simp to their knees. After winning Anime of the Year via the Crunchyroll Anime Awards, and Anime of the Decade via a poll on Funimation, the series’ popularity continued to skyrocket and the Demon Slayer: Mugen Train film is proof of that.

Recently, it crossed the 5 BILLION yen mark (around $475 million UDS) from worldwide sales making it the highest-grossing movie in all of 2020 IN THE WORLD. In 2021, it became the #1 movie in North America, out-grossing Mortal Kombat. Now, the movie has surpassed the $40 million USD mark just here in N.A. alone.

Where does it rank? Well, it is now the third-highest-grossing anime film of all time in the U.S. just right behind the first two Pokemon films.

Another record it broke was when it hit $100 million at the Japanese box office in just 10 days… the fastest movie to ever do so in history. Needless to say, it is also the highest-grossing movie (both animated and live-action) in Japan’s history beating out Makoto Shinkai’s your name. as well as Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away.

You know… just a small blip on the radar or something. I’m sure this is just a passing fad ;)
