Many were curious about how well March would go for both Nintendo and certain games it released, not the least of which was the title Monster Hunter Rise. An exclusive Monster Hunter title for the Switch. The game has done very well both critically and commercially based on various reports, and now, we can add the latest NPD numbers to that.
Mat Piscatella broke it down and according to the numbers, Monster Hunter Rise was #2 in terms of overall sales in the US.

Now, before you say, “that must mean it did bad because it didn’t beat out Call of Duty” that’s not accurate. Remember, these are NPD numbers for just March, not including April numbers, plus, these are the just the US numbers. Globally, Monster Hunter Rise is soaring and has apparently sold around 5 million units already! VentureBeat even added a quote from Mat in their analysis noting:
“Monster Hunter: Rise debuted as March’s second best-seller, while also ranking first on Switch,” said Piscatella. “With just one month on the market, lifetime dollar sales of Monster Hunter: Rise rank second among all Monster Hunter franchise releases, trailing only Monster Hunter: World.”
So yeah, that’s very impressive. Proving that Monster Hunter titles can indeed sell well on Switch, something Capcom is hoping will happen to their OTHER exclusive title (on consoles at least) via Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin that comes out in July.
Finally, and just as importantly, the Nintendo Switch was the best-seller and moneymaker in terms of consoles in March, continuing its streak. A very good month indeed.
