Facebook Oculus has announced its first gaming showcase, which will take place on April 21st, 2021. The event will be live-streamed starting at 3 PM PDT / 6 PM EDT on YouTube, Twitch, and Facebook.
According to the announcement, several studios will be on hand to show off something. These include Ready At Dawn, Cloudhead Games, and ILMxLAB. Games such as Pistol Whip, Lone Echo II, and Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge and have been teased as well. I’ve been waiting on news regarding Lone Echo II, so I’ll be watching for this.
Seeing how Oculus’s focus has shifted to the Quest 2, I wouldn’t be surprised if we’d got a date of death for the premier Oculus headset; the Rift S. Ever since the Quest 2 was announced, there hasn’t been any news regarding the Rift S. It’s been a frustrating time especially if you own the headset and are wondering what Oculus’s plans are for it. I hope I’m wrong, and that Oculus surprises us, but you’ll have to forgive me for my pessimism. I’m just going to call it nothing but Quest 2 exclusives outside of Lone Echo II. And that’s if that title doesn’t get moved over to the Quest 2.
But if you’re about that Quest 2 life, there should be plenty of surprises in store when the showcase debuts next week.
There have also been rumors of a new Quest VR headset, and we’ll likely either hear or see it during the gaming showcase. I suppose I shouldn’t call it rumored, as Mak Zuckerberg himself had confirmed the headset during the January 2021 earnings call.
Either way, if you’re curious about gaming in virtual reality, be sure to watch the livestream next week.
