There’s a definite undead theme going on with this month’s offerings for PlayStation Plus. Interestingly, Zombie Awareness Month is… next month, in May. But hey, looks like Zombie Awareness Month came early this year! Starting tomorrow, April 6th, PS Plus subscribers can download Days Gone, Zombie Army 4: Dead World, and Oddworld: Soulstorm. While PlayStation 4 owners can experience both zombie titles on offer with Days Gone and Zombie Army 4, only PlayStation 5 owners can download Oddworld. And if you have yet to pick up last month’s fantastic offerings, today is the last day to do so.
So what can we expect for this month?
Bend Studios brings us an open world survival game where zombies are always just around the bend. As the epic named bounty hunter Deacon St. John, players bike around the Pacific Northwest avoiding the undead, here known as Freakers. You can undertake story quests, customize weapons, and upgrade your bike as you drive across the post-apocalypse. In our review, we had some issues, finding that while Days Gone “had some great ideas, none of them are implemented particularly well.”
Many are familiar with Call of Duty’s Nazi Zombies mode, but the Sniper Elite series has its own Nazi Zombies expansion that became a standalone series. Rebellion Developments released the latest entry just last year, and players who have yet to experience the World War II undead action game can get it now on PS Plus. Players can band together in groups up to four to drive the zombie horde out of Europe once and for all (or at least until the next game). In our review, we found Zombie Army 4 “a simple Zombie game to sit back and relax to while you split heads open like overripe watermelons.”
Though not explicitly zombie related, Oddworld: Soulstorm still has some creepiness to it as it tells the story of Abe, a humanoid known as a Mudokon, attempting to save his friends after escaping from slavery. Developed by Oddworld Inhabitants, the game is a reimagining of Oddworld: Abe’s Exoddus from 1998. New to the platformer is a crafting system that will allow players to create new weapons for Abe. Tomorrow actually marks the release of the game, so PlayStation 5 owners can get a brand new game with PS Plus.
PlayStation Plus subscribers can download Days Gone, Zombie Army 4: Dead World, and Oddworld: Soulstorm from April 6th until May 3rd, according to the PlayStation Blog. While Oddworld: Soulstorm is only available with PS Plus for the PlayStation 5, those who own a PlayStation 4 can still purchase the game separately.
