Netflix Nabs ‘Knives Out’ Sequels for $450 Million

By Sara Roncero-MenendezMarch 31, 2021

Rain Johnson’s surprise mystery hit Knives Out has left many wondering when we would see Daniel Craig as super-Southern detective Benoit Blanc again. It looks like a sequel, and a third film, are on the way. The question is who will fund them? It’s looking like Netflix is the culprit…I mean winner.

According to Deadline and Variety, Netflix has been in talks to grab the rights to produce and distribute Knives Out 2 and Knives Out 3. Johnson is set to return as director and Craig is poised to sign back on for the lead. Deadline reports that Netflix is closing in on the deal while Variety states the deal is sealed. Both are reporting that the streaming service will shell out anywhere from $400 to $450 million for both films. No word yet if the movies would be streaming service only or would also get a theatrical release.

There’s also no word yet as to what the next two films will be about, besides being mysteries. It’ll be interesting to see if they can live up to the first, or if Netflix will regret this massive movie investment.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
