Meet the Cast of ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’, including Darth Vader

By Sara Roncero-MenendezMarch 29, 2021

Still having withdrawals from the end of The Mandalorian? There’s more Star Wars goodness coming your way. Today, Disney and LucasFilm have released the official cast of Obi-Wan Kenobi, a special event series for Disney+. As previously announced, Ewan McGregor returns to play the titular Jedi. Additionally, it is now official that Hayden Christensen returns to reprise his role as Darth Vader.

Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse, who played young Owen and Beru Lars in the prequels, will likely be reprising those roles as well. The cast also includes Moses Ingram, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie, though we don’t know who they are playing yet. It will be directed by Deborah Chow, known for her work directing the episodes “The Sin” and “The Reckoning”  from The Mandalorian‘s first season.

According to the Star Wars official press release, “The story begins 10 years after the dramatic events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith where Kenobi faced his greatest defeat, the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker turned evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.”

Originally, the Obi-Wan project was meant to be a solo film, as announced in August 2017. However, after the tanking of Solo, the studio seemed to change direction. Last year, it was announced that the project would be a stand-alone single season event, along with several other Star Wars TV products developed for the Disney+ streaming service.

Production is set to begin in April, so we should be visiting that galaxy far, far away soon.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
