Needless to say, Demon Slayer is a bit of a popular series. So much so that it recently broke a record as it surpassed Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli’s Spirited Away to become Japan’s highest-grossing movie ever.
But the achievement doesn’t stop there. It was announced that Demon Slayer: Mugen Train will be receiving a theater showing in Miami, FL beginning on Friday, February 26. This isn’t just your average, everyday theater showing, though. This run will put the film into Oscar nomination consideration.
Previously, the Academy only allowed films to have a seven-day theatrical run in Los Angeles County; however, thanks to the #1 anime betrayal of all-time, COVID-19, they are making some exceptions. Qualifying cities have been expanded to Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York City, Chicago, Atlanta, and, of course, Miami.
Funimation and Aniplex are still planning to screen the movie in additional theaters at some point in early 2021.
