While Square Enix and People Can Fly previously announced that Outriders would see a demo before the game’s release. Which got pushed back to April 1st, 2021, and the demo releasing on February 25th, 2021. Today, more information regarding the demo was released, and we’re going to tell you all about it.
What is Outriders?
Outriders is a third-person shooter mixed with elements from role-playing games. A loot shooter, similar to The Divison and Destiny 2, but unlike the latter, it won’t be a game as a service(GaaS). Players will choose from four different classes (Trickster, Devastator, Pyromancer, and Technomancer). After an 80-year journey to a planet called Enoch, players will awaken after the Earth was deemed unsustainable for human life. Of course, once they do awaken, they find out that something is wrong, and now it’s up to the players to solve the mystery of Enoch.
When will the demo be playable?
February 25th, 2021, is when you’ll be able to play the Outriders demo. According to People Can Fly, the demo will not include a time limit so that you can play it indefinitely. The demo will stay live after the full game is launched, so people still on the fence can check it out.
What platforms will the demo be available on?
PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC (Epic Games Store/ Steam). While Outsiders is coming to Stadia, the demo won’t be available on the Platform.
How large is the demo?
The PC version is around 24GB, while the console version will be 22GB. It might be a bit larger when being uncompressed. As for Google Stadia, there’s no download as it’s all in the cloud.
When can we pre-load the demo?
Sadly, there is no pre-load for the demo. You’ll have to wait until February 25th, 2021, to download it.
What can we do in the demo?
There’s actually a lot that we’ll be able to do, as it will contain the game’s prologue and opening chapter. This will allow everyone to get familiar with the structure and enemies you’ll see in the full game. According to the developer, the demo will include some story bits, and we’ll get to see our first named baddie, called Gauss. Once you down him, several side missions will unlock. And if you don’t want to do that, you’ll still be able to explore the open world.
The Outriders demo will include all 4 characters and 6 character slots. Plenty of space to try out a few characters without deleting any of them. That is unless you need more than 6 slots.
Characters will be capped to level 7, which is just enough to let you access any of the character’s 4th ability and play around with the skill tree. Lastly, players will be able to access world tier 5 (Think The Division). The higher the world tier, the better the chances for finding higher and more rare gear. There’s a very small chance that you’ll be able to find some legendary gear as well.
Will the demo support cross-play?
It sure will. Players will be able to play alongside others, regardless of the system. However, cross-play will be in a rough state and need to be enabled in the demo settings.
As for cross-progression, that’s a different story, as the demo will not include this. This was a question asked by a fan of the game and answered by the Outriders official Twitter account.
No plans at this time. Cross-platform progression requires cross-commerce which is usually not supported.

Can I transfer my progress to the full game?
YES! Everyone who plays the demo will transfer their progress to the full game, with a few exceptions. Cross-save only works on the same platform. If you play the demo on Steam, your progress can only be transfer to the full version on Steam and not the Epic Game Store version. For now, it looks like progression transfer is only available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam.
Anything else I should know?
The PC version will support Nvidia’s DLSS 2.0, and ultrawide monitors, so you can take advantage of all that real estate sitting on your desk. Speaking of the PC version, here are the PC specs, since you asked.
