Fans have been waiting for a LONG time for a brand new Nintendo Direct to arrive, and oh boy did we get one today! Because whether you’re a fan of 1st party, 3rd party, or both, this Direct had you covered! Let’s break down some of the highlights from the Direct!
First and foremost, Nintendo wasted no time in bringing in the newest Smash Bros character…Pyra and Mythra from Xenoblade Chronicles 2!!!!
A new DLC fighter for Super #SmashBrosUltimate has been announced! This fighter will release in March, so stay tuned for more information soon. pic.twitter.com/5yBSEMOyx9

Seriously, that fakeout was legendary, loved it. But seriously, Sakurai noted a while ago that he really wanted to bring Rex into Super Smash Bros Ultimate originally but couldn’t because of timing, which led many to think it would be him as a DLC character. Well, this is the next best thing and it makes sense to focus on Pyra and Mythra as they’re two very different sides of the same coin. Plus, Rex does appear in the Final Smash (each of which are different) so it counts! They’ll be coming out in March, so you know Sakurai will do a video breaking down their moves soon.
Some smaller announcements include Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockouts coming to Switch this summer, some old-school Famicom mystery games being revitalized for the Switch, a new trailer for Monster Hunter Rise (coming in March), a Switch version of Miitopia, and more! But if you’re saying “where’s the new 1st party title?”, here it is!
Yep, Mario Golf Super Rush is coming this June! And it’ll feature new ways of playing golf including a Speed Mode and even a story mode! No doubt it’s looking to build off the success of Mario Tennis Aces, and it looks like it might just do that.
What’s that? You want a big 3rd party confirmation? Ok! Cue the aliens!
Yes, we finally have more info on No More Heroes 3 via this Nintendo Direct. As Travis Touchdown must save the world versus a bunch of aliens trying to bring it all down. The action and insanity will be off the charts when the game arrives this August!
Oh, you wanted something more original? Ok!
Project TRIANGLE STRATEGY, launching for #NintendoSwitch in 2022, continues SQUARE-ENIX’s legacy of tactical RPGs. Featuring deep gameplay full of choices and consequences, strategically survey the battlefield to gain the upper hand.

Yes, this Nintendo Direct brought forth the newest game from the team behind Octopath Traveler! This one in “Project Triangle Strategy” (working title) will push your story and strategy skills to the limit! As you’ll be tasked with stopping the “Saltiron War” by making key decisions that’ll decide the fate of nations! All big decisions are decided by a scaled vote so you need to sway people to your side if you want to go down the path you want! The story will unfold based on these decisions, so be warned! Also, the battle system will take more of a Final Fantasy Tactics view on things with using terrains and levels to your advantage! Be ready when this game comes out…in 2022. Yeah, it sucks. BUT, a demo for it is available right now!
In Legend of Zelda news, Skyward Sword is getting an HD remaster and even some special Joy-Cons made! The remaster will arrive in July. But if you’re looking for something a bit sooner…
And finally, the biggest news of all (arguably), in 2022, we’ll be getting Splatoon 3!
And if you’re curious about the new look of things, there’s been info released on that:
#Splatoon3 is headed to #NintendoSwitch in 2022, letting players explore the sun-scorched Splatlands and the city of Splatsville in "the wake of chaos." Check out screenshots and the trailer now: https://t.co/15QWSAQpLG pic.twitter.com/MhkQ7sQTOO

The “wake of Chaos” is a reference to the last Splatfest where it was “Order vs Chaos” and Chaos won. So like last time, the final Splatfest has helped shape the future!
