Nintendo Announces A 50-Minute Direct For Tomorrow

By Keith MitchellFebruary 16, 2021
Nintendo Direct Feb 2021

Add this to the “I didn’t see this coming” column. Nintendo has announced that it host a Nintendo Direct on February 17th, 2021, at 2 PM PT / 5 PM ET. This direct will be 50-minutes long and will feature news and updates about current and upcoming Nintendo games. It

While Nintendo hasn’t revealed its entire hand for this direct, they did say they’ll be releasing new information on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. So it’s likely we’ll hear about another character headed to the game. But who will they announce this time? The last reveal brought Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII to the game and nearly ended the world. I can’t even begin to imagine who they’ll announce next, but whoever it is, I’m sure the SSBU will eat them up… unless it’s another Fire Emblem character.

That’s not all they mentioned, as they’ll also be releasing new information on games coming to the Switch in the first half of 2021. The fact that this show is 50 minutes long either means there will be a lot of Super Smash being talked about and shown, or they have some possibly big games coming that no one knows about.

Either way, I’m excited about tomorrow, and you should be as well.

Tune in 2/17 at 2 p.m. PT for a #NintendoDirect livestream featuring roughly 50 minutes of information focused on available games like Super #SmashBrosUltimate and games coming to #NintendoSwitch in the first half of 2021.https://t.co/fbG3hEtD0Q pic.twitter.com/w8J6lbdIkQ

As for what Nintendo could announce tomorrow, it is a head-scratcher. They’ve already announced Pokemon Snap, which is set for an April 30th, 2021 release date. At the same time, Monster Hunter Rise has been heavily promoted already, as has Bravely Default II. So what could Nintendo be ready to talk about?

My money is on No More Heroes III, as the game was delayed, and everyone is hungry for more information on it. And while it’s too early, we could also find out what’s been going on with The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild 2. Lastly, I fully expect Nintendo to give an update on Metroid Prime 4. The game was announced to be in development during E3 2017, then revealed by Nintendo during January 2019, development on the game was being restarted, as Retro Studios was taking over from Bandai Namco Studios.

And if there’s one game I’m looking forward to more than anything on the Switch, it would be this. Well, outside of F-Zero, that is, and I’ve completely given up on Nintendo bringing that Franchise back to life. Nintendo could very well announce that either the Kingdom Hearts games are also headed to the Switch. They already came to the Xbox and PC; I can’t see why the Switch wouldn’t be the next platform to see those games.

One thing for sure, tomorrow will be a big day for Nintendo Switch fans, and I can’t wait to see what Nintendo reveals. I really want that Metroid Prime 4 news, so please don’t disappoint me, Nintendo.
