Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart looked to be one of the more impressive PlayStation 5 games when PlayStation showed it off. And many of us were eager to get our hands on it, except for one problem. There was no release date, but that has all changed as of today. Insomniac and PlayStation are happy to announce that Ratchet & Clank: Rift will be released on June 11th, 2021. And yes, it did slip past the original launch window for the PlayStation.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will explore Ratchet and Clank’s story as the duo traverses across multiple realities to stop a villainous emperor from exploiting the catastrophic dimensional collapse caused by a malfunctioning device to instigate a plan of exterminating organic life in all universes. Along the way, they’ll encounter all sorts of enemies and alternate counterparts, including a female version of Ratchet who has yet to be named and seems to sport a mechanical arm.
According to Insomniac, the game will include two different graphical modes. A performance mode that runs at 60 frames per second, with a lower resolution. And a 4K mode that will run at 30 frames per second. But seeing what Insomniac has done for Marvel’s Spider-Man and Spider-Man Miles Morales, I wonder if we’ll eventually see a Ray-Traced performance mode that takes advantage of both worlds.
There will be two versions of the game; a standard ($69.99) and a digital deluxe ($79.99) version. The digital deluxe version will also include the following goodies;
- Five Armor Sets
- Photo Mode Sticker Pack
- 20 Raritanium (in-game upgrade materials)
- Digital Soundtrack
- Digital Art Book
Those who pre-order the game will also include the Carbonox Armor and Pixelizer Weapon.
That said, here’s to hoping that more PlayStation 5’s will readily be available by the time the game is released. Between the increased demand and the lack of available PS5’s, scalpers (I hate them), and the lack of AMD’s chips to power the console, it’s been a bad time for PlayStation fans.
Either way, it’s nice to see that we finally have a release date for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.
