Update: Now we know that Playgrounds isn’t handling the port, but Sumo Digital. Now while I have concerns that Playgrounds wasn’t available to port Forza Horizon 4 to Steam, I have faith in Sumo Digitals. When it comes to racing games, they’re spot on and have handled ports of several racing games, or worked alongside the original developers. They’ve also worked with Playground Games on Forza Horizon 2 and developed a few games you may have heard of, including OutRun 2006: Coast 2 Coast, Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, and Team Sonic Racing. No worries here on the port, I’m sure it’s going to be great.
Together with our development partner @WeArePlayground, on March 9 we welcome Steam players to the open-world automotive adventure of Forza Horizon 4!

Original Story:
After years of asking, it’s finally happening – Forza Horizon 4 is heading to Steam. Yes, it’s finally happening.
Forza Horizon 4 on Steam will support cross-play with both Xbox, Windows 10 PC, and Android via Project xCloud players. Both expansions, Fortune Island and LEGO Speed Champions, will also be available on the same day. There’s currently no word on the price of Forza Horizon 4 on Steam, but I’d imagine it will be priced the same as it is for Xbox or Windows 10.
*Edit* Looks like we were wrong. Upon checking with our Microsoft rep, game saves and progression WON’T sync to the Steam version. That’s going to cause some potential buyers to pause, and it should. Especially if you spent hundreds of hours with the game.
It doesn’t look like DX11 support is being included, and only DX12 will be provided. On the positive side, PC gamers won’t have to deal with the Microsoft Store or Xbox on Windows 10, anymore. But you’ll have to double-dip for the Steam version.
