Vicarious Visions now part of Blizzard to work on unnamed project

Today, Activision has clipped the wings of Vicarious Visions, the development studio that spearheaded the amazing reboot of Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1+2 and Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy. Reports coming in from gamesindustry.biz are that studio will now be Blizzard’s employees. Meaning they will no longer work on separate projects and will be all hands on deck for Blizzard titles.

Activision/Blizzard provided gamesindustry.biz with a statement as to why this is happening:

“After collaborating with Vicarious Visions for some time and developing a great relationship, Blizzard realized there was an opportunity for [Vicarious Visions] to provide long-term support,” a representative explained gamesindustry.biz but refused to mention what these new employees would be working on.

If I had to guess, I’d imagine they’ll be moving into the ongoing Diablo Immortal and the still in development Diablo 4. Still, it’s a shame this is happening as everything the team has worked on has been well received. Here’s to hoping we don’t see any of them being let go shortly.

Well, I’ve seen some ridiculous things throughout my time in the gaming industry, but this recent move from Activision/Blizzard really confuses me. I really don’t understand this move, but I suppose the powers did this for a reason. I don’t agree with it, as Vicarious Visions is or was an amazing studio. I’m talking about a studio that could stand next to Bluepoint and now just look at it.

What do you think? Let us know in the comments.
