Former F-Zero GX Producer Would Be Up For Bringing Franchise Back

By Todd BlackJanuary 3, 2021
F-Zero GX, Nintendo

One of the things that is making the Nintendo Switch so memorable is that Nintendo is diving deep into its library to bring fresh titles from various franchises to the system (as well as ports of older titles people may not have played on the Wii U). Mario, Zelda, Animal Crossing, Splatoon, Paper Mario, Mario Party, Smash Bros, Xenoblade Chronicles and more have already been represented via games on the system, and more are on the way like Metroid. But one franchise that everyone is pining to see a comeback of…is F-Zero.

The lightning-fast racing game was a staple of Nintendo systems for many early years, which is why Captain Falcon became a gaming icon and was included in Smash Bros. But ever since F-Zero GX…nothing has really come out for it. However, in an interview with Red Bull France, the producer of GX, Toshihiro Nagoshi, stated that he would be up for making a new game in the franchise:

“Mmm… Putting aside the odds of it happening, I must admit I have a lot of affection for F-Zero GX. If the opportunity were to present itself, I wouldn’t mind. And in that case, I’d like to make it a challenging game. I believe that if Nintendo just wants a racing game that is ‘fun and accessible’, they already have Mario Kart for that purpose.”

And while it is true that Nintendo does love their “accessible” games, they’ve also been working on expanding their horizons in terms of what their franchises can do and what third-parties can bring to the system. So maybe…just maybe…we’ll get to race in the Blue Falcon before the Nintendo Switch era is over.
