Oscar Isaac Stars as Solid Snake in New ‘Metal Gear Solid’ Movie

By Sara Roncero-MenendezDecember 5, 2020

Move over Sonic, there’s a new video game adaptation coming to town. Sony has announced that Oscar Isaac will be portraying everyone’s favorite stealthy soldier Snake in their upcoming Metal Gear Solid film. Jodran Vogt-Roberts, who directed Kong: Skull Island, is set to direct the film, with Derek Connolly, who worked on the various Jurassic World films and Detective Pikachu, will write the script.

Based on the highly popular games of the same name by Hideo Kojima, Metal Gear Solid follows Snake, a soldier who must sneak into a nuclear weapons facility to stop Foxhound, a renegade special ops unit. There are eleven main games in the franchise, though the film will likely follow the plot of the first game.

Oscar Isaac is best known for playing rebel pilot Poe Dameron in the latest three Star Wars movies, as well as his roles in Ex Machina and Annihilation. Isaac will also be in the new Dune adaptation, which Warner Bros. just announced would be simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max. No word yet on when production of the film will begin.

Now, the big question remains: will we see Oscar Issac crawling around inside of a box? The world needs to know.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
