Actor Elliot Page has come out as trans via a statement posted to his social media. In it, Page discusses his new pronouns (he/they) and expresses both hope and trepidation coming out.
Here is the statement he posted earlier today on his social media:
Page is best known for his work in the movie Juno, and for playing one of the super-powered siblings on The Umbrella Academy. Netflix has already changed his name on the credits and in the metadata of their service. According to Variety, insiders have said that Netflix will not be recasting Vanya, the cisgendered female character Page plays, as a result of him coming out. Additionally, many of his Umbrella Academy costars, and the show’s official social media channels, have publicly shown support for the actor.
Page’s wife, Emma Portner, also shared a message of support on Instagram and asked people respect their privacy at this time: “I am so proud of [Elliot]. Trans, queer and non-binary people are a gift to this world. I also ask for patience & privacy but that you join me in the fervent support of trans life every single day. Elliot’s existence is a gift in and of itself. Shine on sweet E. Love you so much.”
Umbrella Academy Season 3 has been confirmed by Netflix, but when it will air is currently unknown.
