More and more information about the PlayStation 5 is beginning to hit the internet as some media websites, YouTubers, Influencers, and others are getting their PlayStation 5 consoles to prepare them for review once the console officially launches next month. Information like the unboxing and testing of the Dual Sense PlayStation 5 controller has appeared thanks to YouTuber Austin Evans, and now we get to see the official box of the PlayStation 5 console itself thanks to the Twitter user Devindra Hardawar on behalf of Engadget on YouTube.
As you can see in the photos above, the box for the PlayStation 5 is as bare-bones as the console itself, using a very white look to the box, unlike previous boxes that have used darker tones for their consoles and the boxes too.
Along with the general look of the box, we do get some information too. We get to see that once again, the disc drive is going to be region locked (At least for media such as 4K/Bluray/DVD discs, I don’t think Sony would be dumb enough to region lock games since their consoles have been region-free since the PlayStation 3.) and that the console supports both Dolby Audio and DTS-HD 7.1 Audio. The content of the box has also been revealed too, which will contain:
- PS5 console
- HDMI 2.1 cable
- Materials
- Wireless controller
- AC power cord
- Astro’s playroom (pre-installed)
- Base
- USB cable
The final detail, which is on the bottom of the box, is the transfer details to send your information and possibly games from your PlayStation 4 to your new PlayStation 5. Those instructions are as follows:
- Connect your PS4 console and your PS5 console to the same network
- Connect your extended storage drive from your PS4 console to your PS5 console
- Sign in to your PS5 console with the account you created on a PS4 console. You can transfer data such as gaming history and trophies, as well as profile and friend information.
Sounds simple.
Of course, with the release of the console to outlets come the obvious size comparisons. Devindra has come forth with those shots too, which you can see above. This really just confirms what we already know, that the PlayStation 5 console is a BIG UNIT, full of the chonk. The PlayStation 5 looks to be about a quarter of the size taller than the PlayStation 4, and almost double the width on top of the box.
The PlayStation 5 will launch in most major regions on November 12th, 2020 from most major retailers. As more information comes available, The Outerhaven will do its best to cover it all the way through launch day and beyond.
Now only if someone will release a picture of the real content: The HDMI 2.1 cable.
