Monster Hunter, the latest video game adaptation has released its first trailer to the international audience. Take a look below.
The movie, the latest in a long line of CAPCOM video games made into movies by filmmaker Paul W.S. Anderson and featuring his wife Milla Jovovich in the lead role is about a group of American military soldiers led by Lt. Artemis (Jovovich) who are transported to a world populated by giant monsters. They meet a local Monster Hunter (Tony Jaa) who teaches them about the monsters and what is needed to defeat them so that the soldiers can get home before the monsters invade our world. Monster Hunter also stars Clifford “T.I.” Harris, Jr., Meagan Good, Diego Boneta, Josh Helman, Jin Au-Yeung, and Ron Perlman.
The look of Monster Hunter is amazing, especially the detail given to the monsters such as the Rathalos and the Diablos, but outside of that, everything else looks exceptionally bland. People are already having an issue with the way Anderson is portraying the world of Monster Hunter, pointing out in this trailer that fire-enhanced dual blades do nothing to a Diablos since the creature is resistant to fire. However, as Resident Evil fans have known for a long time, Anderson plays loosely with the lore of the world he is adapting in order to create something that he wants the world to be, not what fans actually expect… Plus whatever makes his wife look good.
Expect Milla Jovovich to be the only survivor in Monster Hunter, coming to cinemas on December 30, 2020… Unless Sony wakes up and decides to join the growing segment of Hollywood abandoning traditional cinemas for streaming release.
