We are given new details in regards to Hyrule Warrior: Age of Calamity during the virtual presentation of this year’s Tokyo Gameshow. It confirms now that we will be able to play as Impa 100 years before the main game of Breath of the Wild.
During Koei Tecmo’s presenation at Tokyo Gameshow, the team showed new gameplay and mechanics. This includes the return of critical strikes when enemy shields are down. Today, they show off more of the Skiekah Slate functions, that includes bombs and the Cryonis. Though how Link uses cryonis without water around boggles me. We also get to see a bit more of the little white guardian that was teased in the artwork of the game.

We also get to see how Impa was 100 years ago. The resemblance Paya is near mirror like with few features that make the difference. We see her holding the sheikah slate while being chased by enemies. She then trips and the slate triggers the rising of a Shiekah tower while activating the white small guardian.
In terms of her play style, it is big difference from the first game of Hyrule Warriors. Instead of the giant sword, this Impa incarnation utilizes the Skeikah arts similar to Ninja’s Ninjutstu. Using clones and glider bombs to defeat her enemies. This will be favorite for ninja players to say the least.
Also revealed is for those who have game data from Breath of the Wild, you will unlock the Training Sword item for Link. While similar to the Rusty Sword in appearance, it is not a rusty sword. Not really much, but its something for fans who played the original game. This exist alongside the digital preorder bonus of the Lucky Ladle weapon during the games initial reveal.
