Just the other day I was sitting down with my wife, who had decided to watch ‘The Croods’, an animated film released by Dreamworks back in 2013 and is one of her favorites. It also happens to be mine as well. Somehow during the movie, one of us asked (I can’t remember who) wouldn’t be cool if this movie got a sequel. What, I didn’t know that one was greenlit and today I happened to notice that it did get a sequel and that a trailer for the follow-up was released… TODAY!
Officially called ‘The Croods: A New Age’, and it is slated for a November 25th, 2020 release date, in theaters.
In this follow-up, we catch up with the Crood family, that had found what I thought was the perfect place to call home at the end of the first movie. Turns out they didn’t and they’re back on the hunt again and this time their adventure has them encountering a new family of humans, the Betterman’s. Which as the name suggests, are the modern-day man. So what we have here is the Caveman meeting up with their successors, and vice versa.
If the trailer is any indication, this follow-up is going to be just as hilarious as the first movie. Speaking of which, all the return actors are back with Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone, Ryan Reynolds, Catherine Keener, along with Peter Dinklage, Leslie Mann, and Kelly Marie Tran joining the crew.
Looks like Dreamworks has another hit on their hands, if only it wasn’t for the damned COVID-19 pandemic, I might be inclined to head to theaters to watch it. As for a home release, at least for now, there’s no plan for this. While Trolls: World Tour, the last movie from Universal Studios was released directly to VOD, we’ll have to wait and see if The Croods: A New Age will remain in theaters or possibly see an early VOD or a streaming service release.
The Croods: A New Age releases on November 25th, 2020.
