Well, we knew this was going to happen. With every single console release, there are a bunch of assholes who find a way to order something only to flip it on eBay for double the price.
With the announcement of the price and preorder of the Playstation 5, launch day shipments were quickly sold out all over the world. Australia’s EB Games sold out in under 30 minutes of launch day consoles, with the provision of one console per customer. Well, that didn’t seem to stop people from ordering multiple consoles via multiple accounts in order to shove them up onto eBay for a profit.
As you can see above, the going rate for a Launch Day Playstation 5 console “guaranteed” is anywhere from AUD$1000 to AUD$2000 on the popular second hand selling website, which is anywhere from double to triple the price of the console directly from EB Games at AUD$750. With launch day preorders sold out, EB Games quickly posted a second round of preorders for the Playstation 5 which will be due sometime in December 2020, only 2+ weeks after the consoles official launch on November 12th, 2020.
Just putting a warning out there to not support this terrible practice. I know it’s hard to not have the console at launch (Personally I missed out on the launch day shipment due to being asleep when it was announced), but don’t go paying double the price just to be the cool kid on the block, instead go for the post-launch console shipment which should be available before Christmas anyway.
