While we’re all stuck in movie limbo, waiting for the day when the studio finally give up and put their movies on streaming platforms, the industry rolls on. Disney, even having just set up putting Mulan on Disney+ for September, seems to be making moves to continue the highly popular cinematic universe. Case in point, they appear to have hired director Nia DaCosta to work on Captain Marvel 2.
Deadline originally broke the story, with The Hollywood Reporter confirming, that DaCosta was being brought onto the project. Costa will be the first Black woman to direct a Marvel movie. She made her film debut directing Little Woods before going on to direct the much anticipated Candyman reboot. Megan McDonnell, a writer for the upcoming Disney+ show WandaVision, will be working on the script. Brie Larson is set to return as the title character.
Given the state of the pandemic, it is totally possible that the film will be delayed, and DaCosta might move on to other projects, but for now, it’ll be interesting to see what she and the creative team come up with.
Captain Marvel 2 is set to premiere in theaters on July 8, 2022.
