Earlier today, Capcom announced several new additional characters that will make their way over to the Street Fighter V: Champion Edition Roster. This line-up of characters is full of past favorites and the inclusion of a character who’s never been directly involved with the series.
First up is Dan Hibiki, who made his debut in the Street Fighter Alpha series as a joke character that Capcom injected into the series to poke at then-rival, SNK. Since then, Dan has been featured in several Street Fighter and non-Street Fighter games but has also become more than just the joke character he originally was. Now he’s heading to Street Fighter V and will be available this Winter 2020.
The second character also hails from the Street Fighter Alpha series but was also a fan favorite in Street Fighter IV, Rose. While not a playable character in the current version of Street Fighter V, she does make an appearance in one of Menat’s endings, looking like Lisa Lisa from Jojo’s Bizzare Adventure. Harnessing her trademark Soul Power, Rose will make her Street Fighter V debut next Spring 2021.
Oro, from Street Fighter III, is also joining the Street Fighter V roster. I was hoping for Makoto, but Oro is a solid pick as well. I imagine he’ll be just as tricky in SFV, as he was in Street Fighter III. Oro is set to make his appearance next Summer 2021.
The four and final character, for now, is a character who’s never been featured in a Street Fighter title but was in another Capcom title; Akira. No, not that Akira, that’s Virtua Fighter. We’re talking about Akira Kazama, hailing from the Rival School and Project Justice series – A long-forgotten classic Capcom fighting game. A nice surprise, as I used to main Akira back in the day, but don’t expect to see her until after Summer 2021.
There’s one more character that Capcom hasn’t revealed and we won’t know more about this character until Capcom is ready to talk about them. I’m going to go out and speculate that given the recent announcements that this last character will also new to the Street Fighter universe.
Street Fighter V: Champion Edition is currently available to play on the PlayStation 4 and PC (Steam). The most recent update which provides all of the past Street Fighter V downloadable content and currently priced at $29.99.
