While Phantasy Star Online 2 has finally landed in the West, it has up to now only been available on the Xbox One and Windows 10 store. However, it was recently noticed that the Steam page for the game went live today.
Check it out for yourself here.
While the page doesn’t list release date, when you post the link into Discord or another chat program, the release date magically appears. Not sure if this was intended or by accident. Either way, it’s nice to know that we’re weeks away from the Steam release.
As for myself, I’ve been waiting on this game for quite a long time (eight long years) and was mildly frustrated when it finally released on PC due to how the install process being so buggy. Now that the game is heading to Steam (finally) we won’t have to deal with that painful process. Or having it crash every few minutes thanks to Microsoft Game Guard.
My only question now is will I be able to transfer my existing account from the Xbox/Windows 10 version to the Steam. Looks like it’s time to reach out to Sega to find out.
Now that this is happening, all we’ll need to do is wait for the upcoming Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis, that was recently announced.
Not an expansion as previously thought, and instead will be a new game that will run alongside the original Phantasy Star Online 2. All your characters, weapons, and gear will able to move between the two games, while your money and experience will not. While the original game will also receive a visual upgrade when PSO2: New Genesis gets released. It reminds me somewhat of what Square Enix did for Fantasy Final 14, which was on life support until they shut down and brought it back as Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn.
