Christoper Nolan’s time-bending feature, ‘Tenet‘, has been delayed yet again. As reported by Variety, the eagerly awaiting sci-fi flick has disappeared from Warner Bros. 2020 release calendar.
Here’s what Warner Bros. had to say about the removal from the release calendar.
We will share a new 2020 release date imminently for ‘Tenet,’ Christopher Nolan’s wholly original and mind-blowing feature,” said Warner Bros. chairman Toby Emmerich in a statement. “Our goals throughout this process have been to ensure the highest odds of success for our films while also being ready to support our theater partners with new content as soon as they could safely reopen.
Originally scheduled for a July 17th, Tenet had already faced two prior delays, with the movie slipping to August 12, 2020. Tired of delaying the film it would seem that Warner Bros. is no longer interested in trying to salvage a Summer 2020 release.
Tenet may slip into 2021 or beyond. Seeing how we’re no closer to getting out of this COVID-19 mess, I suppose worrying about when a movie will release is the least of our worries.
While COVID-19 has deaminated any chances of anyone heading to a movie theater to watch a movie, studios have turned to releasing films via streaming services and digital releases. This is a topic that many have debated on for years, and now that COVID-19 has reared its ugly head, studios have had little choice but to finally plug the trigger on this move. Some have had mild success in doing so, which has raised the question of why aren’t more studios following suit.
Movies that have either enjoyed a rather short stint in theaters or released directly to streaming services or digital releases include Sony’s Bloodshot, Miss Juneteenth, Artemis Fowl, Scoob!, Trolls World Tour, Onward, The Lovebirds, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Birds of Prey: Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn.
With Tenet stricken from a 2020 release, I’m sure everyone’s eyes will now look toward the status of Disney’s Mulan, Marvel’s Black Widow, and the Paramount’s Fast 9.
