One of the biggest questions in terms of video game world was how the sales of games and consoles would be affected by the global lockdown. Now, we do seem to have an indication that this will NOT slow down the Nintendo Switch as its March numbers were in the millions, and its April numbers will likely emulate that.
The NPD results for April have come out in some degree and the Nintendo Switch is NO.1 in the United States. But just as important, they sold VERY well, getting over 800,000 units sold, beating out projections of analyst Michael Patcher who had this to say:
“The Switch’s status as a must-have item among many stay-at-home consumers drove a terrific April figure that would have been meaningfully higher if not for widespread sellouts throughout the month. The Switch led industry unit sales for the 17th consecutive month.”
This is also significant because the Switch has been having shipping issues that Nintendo only recently said they were going to be able to fix. If the global numbers are even half of this then that would mean that the Nintendo Switch sold over a million in the month of April, and May might have been just as good via the release of Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition.
Finally, the sales of the Switch were so good they beat out the PS4 AND the Xbox One combined.
