2020 already feels like a dystopia so thankfully, Hulu isn’t releasing the new, likely very depressing Handmaid’s Tale Season 4 anytime soon. But have no fear, it is coming, hopefully when the world is a little less scary in the year 2021. And we even have a new teaser to prove it!
Last we saw June, she sacrificed herself to get a plane full of children to Canada, but her fellow handmaids have found and rescued her. It looks like the higher ups have finally figured out that June is a revolutionary and is out to finally kill her. However, June’s on the run with other women to bring down the government. It looks like the rebellion and international forces are finally stepping up to Gilead, and we might be seeing the toppling of an empire. We see Commander Fred, Serena Joy, and the bodyguard Nick still around, as well as June’s husband Luke, best friend Moira, and fellow Handmaid Janine.
It looks like, at least part of the plot, June will be returning to D.C. in order to help free the Handmaids there, who have had their mouths sewn shut. Commander Joseph will play a part in this, especially now his wife is gone. Also there’s going to be another major violent act of rebellion, though it isn’t shown directly. Basically, not stuff we’re probably not ready to steep ourselves in after months of isolation and fear.
It’s very unlikely that Season 4 will be the last season, since it would be all over their advertising if that was the case. I wonder if the season will end with the fall of Gilead and the final season see the various members of the party being tried for war crimes and setting up the new government.
The Handmaid’s Tale Season 4 will premiere on Hulu sometime in 2021.
