Didn’t someone say this didn’t exist?
When the DC Comics movie universe got started, Warner Bros put all of their faith in one man to start. That man was Zack Snyder. He made Man of Steel to good enough acclaim to kickstart a whole universe. Which later became Batman V Superman Dawn of Justice (also done by Snyder), Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman, and then Justice League. When Justice League came out though, there were numerous issues behind-the-scenes. Including Warner Bros repeatedly interfering with Snyder’s true vision of what the film was supposed to be. Thus, when it came out (after Snyder bowed out due to personal family reasons and Joss Whedon had replaced him and inserted his footage) the reception was…lukewarm. Then rumors started to swirl…there was The Snyder Cut.
In short, Zack Snyder had a grand multi-movie vision for Justice League originally, but because of forced reshoots and the will of Warner Bros, the film had to be severely cut down. As Snyder talked more and more about it, and more and more clips were shown, fans made their feelings known. #ReleaseTheSnyderCut. And now, after over a year of begging for it…we’re getting it.
HBO Max, the upcoming WB streaming platform, is going to show the full Snyder Cut version of Justice League starting in 2021.
“I want to thank HBO Max and Warner Brothers for this brave gesture of supporting artists and allowing their true visions to be realized. Also a special thank you to all of those involved in the SnyderCut movement for making this a reality,” said Snyder.
Apparently, some of the folk at Warner Media had been hearing about The Snyder Cut too…
“Since I got here 14 months ago, the chant to #ReleaseTheSnyderCut has been a daily drumbeat in our offices and inboxes. Well, the fans have asked, and we are thrilled to finally deliver. At the end of the day, it really is all about them and we are beyond excited to be able to release Zack’s ultimate vision for this film in 2021. This could never have happened if it weren’t for the hard work and combined efforts of the teams at HBO Max and Warner Bros. Pictures,” said Robert Greenblatt, Chairman, Warner Media Entertainment and Direct-To-Consumer.
“Thanks to the efforts of a lot people, we’re excited to bring fans this highly anticipated version of Justice League,” said Toby Emmerich, Chairman, Warner Bros. Pictures Group. “This feels like the right time to share Zack’s story, and HBO Max is the perfect platform for it. We’re glad the creative planets aligned, allowing us to #ReleaseTheSnyderCut.”
The only question now will be, “how will it be shown?” The Snyder Cut is reportedly quite huge, potentially even 6 hours long in full (remember he was aiming to do a couple of movies before WB forced him to change tactics). Whether HBO Max will show it in parts or in full, it’s going to be something, and Zack Snyder promises it will be MUCH different than the theatrical version…which he admits he hasn’t seen.
So let this be known to the world, the fans have power. They changed Sonic The Hedgehog’s movie for the better, and now, we got The Snyder Cut.
