UPDATE (5/20/2020): According to TVLine, sources close to the production says that Ruby Rose left Batwoman after being unhappy with the long production hours, was not adjusting well to life in Vancouver (where the show is shot), and that the decision for her to leave was mutual, as she clashed with the production team.
“It wasn’t 100-percent her decision,” one of their sources explained. “It was a breakup. She wasn’t happy working on the show, and did that make her fun to work with? No. So everyone decided it would be in the best interests of the show, and for all concerned, if they parted ways. It just wasn’t a good fit.”
Please note, TVLine also reported that reps for Warner Bros. and The CW declined to comment for this story, and Rose’s spokesperson could not be reached for comment.

You think 2020 couldn’t surprise us anymore, but it looks like there’s still a few ways. One of them is that Ruby Rose is leaving the CW’s Batwoman ahead of its second season.
Rose gave the following statement on her departure:
“I have made the very difficult decision to not return to Batwoman next season. This was not a decision I made lightly as I have the utmost respect for the cast, crew and everyone involved with the show in both Vancouver and in Los Angeles. I am beyond appreciative to Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Caroline Dries for not only giving me this incredible opportunity, but for welcoming me into the DC universe they have so beautifully created. “Thank you Peter Roth and Mark Pedowitz and the teams at Warner Bros. and The CW who put so much into the show and always believed in me. Thank you to everyone who made season one a success – I am truly grateful.”
The CW has already confirmed that they will be recasting the role for Season 2 rather than canceling the upcoming run. No word yet as to who that might be.
“Warner Bros. Television, The CW and Berlanti Productions thank Ruby for her contributions to the success of our first season and wish her all the best,” the two companies said. “The studio and network are firmly committed to Batwoman’s second season and long-term future, and we — along with the show’s talented creative team — look forward to sharing its new direction, including the casting of a new lead actress and member of the LGBTQ community, in the coming months.”
According to Deadline, there are sources that state that it was not due to the stunt injury that led to emergency surgery. It is strange then for her to step down so suddenly, especially in a way that leaves the show in such a lurch. We will continue to report on this story as new information comes out.
Batwoman Season 2 is set to premiere on the CW sometime in 2021.
