One of my favorite gaming series of all time, Dark Souls, seems to have done pretty well for its self as Fromsoftware has announced that the series has sold over 27 million units as of today.
This includes Dark Souls, Dark Souls II, and Dark Souls III, and updated versions such as Dark Souls Remastered, DARK SOULS II: Scholar of the First Sin, and Dark Souls III: The Fire Fades. To date, the series has been made available for the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PC, and the Nintendo Switch.

Needless to say, that’s no small feat for a series that many had labeled as being one of the hardest games they’ve ever played. Yes, I’m quite aware the games aren’t that hard, trust me when I say that. There was a point where all I did was play the Dark Souls games, that is until my friends intervened.
To this, I’m happy to have done my part in helping the series sell so well. Some may have pegged me as being crazy for owning every copy of the gaming for the consoles and then double-dipping for the PC versions. But I just call that devotion to one of the better Action RPG’s that I’ve ever played. Yes, that includes Dark Souls II, it’s not that bad.
Mind you this number doesn’t even include the PlayStation 4 exclusive Bloodborne, or Fromsoftware’s last title, Sekiro. If it did, I’d imagine those numbers would be considered higher as Bloodborne has sold around 3 million since it was released.
As you may be aware, Fromsoftware is busy working on their next masterpiece, Elden Ring. A title that will not only include an actual story that you’ll be able to follow in-game but one that’s being penned by fantasy novelist George R. R. Martin, and Hidetaka Miyazaki at the helm. The title has been in development since 2017 and according to Miyazaki, the game will feature a vast open-world environment. Ever since the game was announced during E3 2019, we haven’t heard o seen anything regarding the game, but hopefully, that will all change during Summer 2020. Or at least that’s what we’re all hoping anyone.
We can’t forget about the rumored Demon’s Souls PlayStation 5 title that many of the gaming community are hoping that Blue Point is working on. Why it has yet to be proven otherwise, this title is supposedly a reimaging of Demon’s Souls, similar to what the studio did for Shadow of the Colossus. Needless to say, as a huge fan of Demon’s Souls, I truly hope that rumor does eventually become true.
So again, congratulations FromSofrware, Bandai Namco, and of course, Dark Souls for killing us over and over! Are you a fan of the series or have you considered checking out the game? If, what is it about Dark Souls that captivates you so much? We’d love to know in the comments.
