Ever since I finished up EA and Respawn’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, I wanted more. It was an amazing game, and I loved almost every minute of it, so once the credit rolled, I was hoping we’d get another reason to revisit the universe. Well, it took some time, but a new update has been released as of May 4th, 2020, or also known as “May the 4th be with You” day.
Did I mention that this update is also free?
This is a beefy update, as it not only adds a New Journey Plus mode that allows games to replay the game and two other new modes; Battle Grid and Combat Challenges. With New Journey Plus, all of your previously collected cosmetics will follow you over, but you’ll have to reacquire all of your force abilities. Cal gets a new look as the Inquisitor outfit you see in a vision through the story will be available, which looks pretty slick.
However, both the Battle Grid and Combat Challenges have my utmost attention. With the Battle grid, you’re given control over a sandbox environment, where you can select a location, and then you’re dropped into that location. From there, you’ll have access to a playing board with several in-game characters that range from low and high-end enemies. Each enemy is given a point value, and you can add as many enemies to the location as you want, as long as you don’t go over the given 100 points. This can make for some interesting encounters, trust me with that. I made the mistake of adding 5 tough characters and thought they’d all come one by one, except they don’t. Whoever you add to the playing field are all active. Fun times.
Combat Challenges, which will push you to the limits and then some. Here, you’re able to earn up to 3 stars per encounter; 1 star for finishing the challenge, 2 if you don’t heal, and 3 stars if you don’t get damaged. There are 12 areas in the game, and if you manage to earn 12 stars, you’ll earn some BD-1 cosmetics. I’ve tried this as well, and it’s going to take some time to get all those stars.
All in all, for a free DLC update, this isn’t bad. I still would rather story-based update, and I’m still willing to pay for that. But this ain’t bad either.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is available for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It’s also half-priced today, due to the holiday.
