“Resident Evil Resistance” has been flying under the shadow of it’s older brother for some time now. With fans awaiting the remake of “Resident Evil 3” that is set to release this April, it’s left the title feeling like an afterthought.
“Resident Evil Resistance” is a 4v1 multiplayer spin-off set in the Resident Evil universe. Pitting four survivors against one “mastermind” player. Asking the survivors to escape the test facility while shrugging off the onslaught of threats set by the “mastermind”. Whose goal is to place zombies and traps throughout the map to delay them until the time limit has expired.
The open beta was recently released today for all platforms but due to an error, only the Xbox version is available. Leaving PS4 and PC to delay their testing after various matchmaking errors plagued the servers. Effectively rendering it unplayable.
Due to technical issues, there is a delay for the RE Resistance Open Beta on PS4 and Steam. The XB1 version is unaffected and is available. We're working to resolve the issue as soon as we can and will keep you updated. Apologies for the inconvenience.

The survivor game mode is what you’ve come to know from Resident Evil. You’ll take up arms and go through a series of test rooms, shooting zombies, solving rudimentary puzzles and attempting to escape. Players can customize their builds by purchasing weapons throughout the match or using one of their playable character’s various abilities.
The mastermind is a different beast, as you predominantly watch the security cameras trying to devise a plan. This is done by managing a deck of cards that do different things. For example; one card could place a regular zombie and another could set an explosive trap. However, what cards end up in your hands seems to be dictated by luck. There’s also some eye candy for longtime fans, as each mastermind has a selectable “Ultimate” attack, which entails bringing series favorites like Mr.X into the fray.
Resident Evil Resistance seems to be following the route of other multiplayer horror games like “Dead By Daylight”. Trying to introduce a singular powerful player against four weaker players. Sadly this mistake could cut out a large chunk of players that might have been interested. While the beta is likely to remerge later this weekend, it certainly sets the expectations even lower.
On a brighter note, “Resident Evil Resistance” will also come free with “Resident Evil 3”. So perhaps there’s still a chance for Resistance to move out from Resident Evil 3’s shadow and under its wing instead.
