The “Iceborne” Expansion for Monster Hunter Worlds has proven to be a large success for Capcom. Capcom posted an update towards their investors, declaring that the expansion has surpassed five million purchases.
“Capcom Co., Ltd. (Capcom) today announced that Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, the massive expansion for Monster Hunter: World for the PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, the Xbox One*1 family of devices, including Xbox One X, and PC has shipped over 5 million units*2 worldwide.”
“Monster Hunter Worlds” released in Japan during December of 2017, reaching the rest of the world in January of 2018. Receiving critical acclaim and holding a score of 90 on Metacritic. With many people praising its blend of open-world appeal and intricate mechanics.
“Monster Hunter Worlds” would go on to sell 15 million copies and earn itself an expansion called “Monster Hunter Worlds: Iceborne”. Which takes players to Hoarfrost Reach, a frozen tundra full of new monsters for players to face as well as some long-awaited old friends. The expansion broke 2.5 million copies sold in just the first week.
Capcom also reached three million downloads on their newly released mobile game (we know how much everybody loves those) “Monster Hunter Riders”. While also pushing other things such as a planned film adaptation.
“Furthermore, in addition to the new mobile title Monster Hunter Riders (for iOS/Android), which launched in February 2020 and achieved more than 3 million downloads, Capcom plans to carry out a number of initiatives to further cement the series’ position as a global brand, such as with a Hollywood film adaptation of Monster Hunter, a first for the series, scheduled for a September 2020 release.”
