It looks like the adventures of Takeshi Kovacs have only just begun. Netflix returns with a second season of its popular adaptation of sci-fi classic Altered Carbon. But Joel Kinnaman won’t be stepping back into the role of former-rebel Kovacs — instead, Anthony Mackie will be taking the reins this season.

For those who need a quick recap, Altered Carbon takes place in a world where human minds and personalities are saved onto discs called stacks, and implemented into bodies, referred to as sleeves. Takeshi was once a member of a rebellion to try and take down a corrupt system, only to become the group’s only survivor. He’s captured and forced to work for the highest bidder thanks to his unique skill set. What exactly he’ll be doing in this new season and in his new sleeve isn’t totally clear but there’s sure to be trouble.
From what we can see in the trailer, we’re going to see a lot of familiar faces. First off the bat, Chris Conner is back at the AI Edgar Allan Poe, who is a delight. We also get hints that Takeshi will succeed in his mission to find Quellcrist Falconer, the rebel leader who taught Takeshi to fight, played again by Renée Elise Goldsberry. Of course, this might not be real, given that Takeshi hallucinates her often in Season 1. We also get to se Byron Mann, who played Takeshi’s original body, being used once again to confront our main character.
This isn’t the only big-budget show on a streaming service Mackie will be headlining. He’ll be reprising his role as Falcon in the Disney+ Marvel series, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, set to air sometime in 2020.
Altered Carbon Season 2 premieres on Netflix on February 27, 2020.
