Last week, Ubisoft had invited several influencers over to check out some upcoming content for The Division 2. It wasn’t until this past weekend where they started to tease something for this week. All while Ubisoft had planned a live stream to take place today at 11 AM PST. Sadly, as we all know that trying to keep secrets under wraps doesn’t always work and their announcement was leaked ahead of time; a new update for The Division 2 called “Warlords of New York”.
Thanks to the efforts of the Reddit community, we now know about this update, as well as when we can expect it to be released. First and foremost, the game is headed back to New York. The same location that the original game took place. It also looks like we’ll see returning characters from the first game with Faye Lau and Kelso. The closest thing the game has to a main villain, Aaron Keener, is also back and is the focus of this expansion. He’s taken control of Lower Manhattan and has a sizeable team that’s working for him. Guess what you’ll be doing while you’re in town?
The Division 2 Warlords of New York will be paid content and is priced at $39.99 and according to various posts and images, it will be available on March 3rd, 2020.
Here’s a summary of what we can expect with this new expansion;
New York is under threat. Aaron Keener, a former Division Agent turned rogue, has taken control of Lower Manhattan, backed by four devoted and highly skilled lieutenants. Trained by The Division but disavowing its ideals, they are now the highest authority in town and the most formidable force the Agents have ever faced.
Play in single-player or online co-op:
– A gripping new story, hunting down your nemesis
– A level 30 boost, allowing you to jump right into the Warlords of New York campaign
– A new open-world in New York
– A revamped progression system with a level cap increased to 40
– New tactical options: exotics, gears, and skills
– An extended endgame, including thematic three-month seasons
A new story is welcomed, as is the level 30 boost for newcomers to the game. The revamped progression system will change up things, as will the level 40 cap. Yet it also means all of your gear is going to be worthless once the expansion drops, so there’s no point in farming now. As for New York, I can’t wait to get back to it and see how much it differs from the first game. Hopefully, it’s larger as well.
There’s also an Ultimate Edition planned, which will provide several extra bonuses;
- The base game
- The Warlords of New York expansion
- A level 30 boost, allowing you to jump right into the Warlords of New York campaign
- The instant unlock of all 6 endgame specializations
- 8 exclusive Classified assignments missions
- The Battleworn secret service pack
- The First Responder pack
- The Elite Agent pack
- 1 exclusive emote
- 1 exclusive outfit
Things to take note of here is the extended endgame. The Division 2 endgame wasn’t exactly accessible for everyone as it consisted of a raid. Now we’re looking at an endgame that spans 3 months and looks to be story-based, which is fine to me. We’re also heading back to New York, a location that most players had been asking to back to for a while. It would seem that Ubisoft has been listening to the community. It is worth noting that the same thing happened to the first game and thanks to the efforts of Massive and Ubisoft, they turned it around and made it fun again. Maybe this is what is happening with the sequel.
The Livestream that will officially announce Warlords of New York will start at 11 AM PST / 2 PM EST on Twitch, Mixer, and YouTube. Despite the info being leaked ahead of the show, it’s worth checking it out as we’ll get not only the trailer but a look at the gameplay as well.
As for me, I enjoyed my time with The Division 2 and this expansion looks like it will pull me back in. Now it if didn’t cost me another $40.
