Netflix loves a spooky house series, it seems. Not only did it kill it with The Haunting of Hill House, but it also grabbed Typewriter and Marianne. So where do they go next? Key House, of course, where a trio of siblings are about to unlock something truly terrible.
Based on the highly-acclaimed comic series by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodríguez, Locke and Key follows the three Locke siblings, who move back to their father’s home after his tragic murder. They find the house full of strange keys that, when put into the right lock, can open up strange new abilities. In the trailer, we see three of these: the Ghost Key, the Head Key, and the Omega Key. We see them use the Omega key to unlock the demon in the basement, as you do, and now they have to race to find the house’s secrets before they’re killed.
Jackson Robert Scott, best known for his role of Georgie in the IT films, plays the youngest sibling Bode Locke, with Connor Jessup as Tyler Locke and Emilia Jones as Kinsey Locke. The show was developed by Carlton Cuse, Aron Eli Coleite, and Meredith Averill, the last of whom worked on The Haunting of Hill House.
Originally, the show was meant to premiere on Fox in 2011, but then was moved to Hulu in 2017. In 2018, it was announced that the project would be moving to Netflix with an entirely new cast. I will say the trailer definitely comes with a more kid-friendly vibe than the comics did, which were harsh and terrifying as all things Joe Hill makes are. Not sure if they’re going for the Stranger Things audience or if they were looking to stay away from the show just being another gritty adaptation.
And if that wasn’t enough for you, there is an unlisted video of the show’s first scene at the URL at the end of the trailer. Feeling lazy? It’s cool, we grabbed it so you can get a sneak peek:
