Marvel Releases ‘Black Widow’ Teaser Trailer, and it’s a Family Affair

By Sara Roncero-MenendezDecember 3, 2019

For a long time, there was talk that Marvel’s first female solo film would be one featuring everyone’s red-headed spy Natasha Romanoff a.k.a Black Widow. However, the project kept getting pushed back and back, eventually thrown on the back-burner in favor of developing Captain Marvel. However, it looks like the spy is finally get her hour on the screen with the first teaser for Black Widow:

From what we can see in the trailer, the film takes places in between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, where Natasha strikes out on her own and returns to take care of some unfinished business being perpetrated by the Red Room.

Right up front we see Scarlett Johansson as the titular Black Widow. We get to see Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, another Black Widow, who Natasha refers to as her sister. It is clear that both of them trained in the Red Room, and will have to go back to settle a score. We also get a few glimpses at David Harbour of Stranger Things fame as Alexei Shostakov a.k.a Red Guardian, the Russian version of the Captain America super soldier experiment. We can also see Rachel Weisz as Iron Maiden, one of the more seasoned spies from the Red Room, joining up with the other three, though it what capacity we don’t know.

Early rumors circulated that the film would be rated R but Marvel Studio’s head Kevin Feige confirmed back in February 2019 that the film will not be the MCU’s first R-rated flick.

According to reports from D23, the film will also finally answer the question everyone’s been asking since Avengers: what did happen to Black Widow and Hawkeye in Budapest?

The film is directed by Cate Shortland, who is known mostly for directing foreign thrillers. Black Widow will mark the official start of Marvel Studios’ Phase 4.

Black Widow is set to premiere in theaters on May 1, 2020.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
