Frantically hitting F5 checking for my Google Stadia invite code
Good news, my Stadia Founders Edition has shipped. Bad news, I still haven’t received my Google Stadia invite code.
As by some chance of fate, right before I had picked up the phone in a moment of weakness to call Google and cancel my order. I received my “your Google Stadia” has shipped notification and the sum of $129 was ripped from my bank account. So it shipped, where’s my invite code was the next thing on my mind. According to Google, once it had shipped and no earlier than 11/19 9 AM PST, I was supposed to receive an email that would allow me to register my desired username.
That email never was sent. Your email is also likely in limbo as well.
No, instead it seems Google has been sending emails in random order and not by the order of when you purchased the future of cloud gaming. So I suppose that saves me time from pressing the F5 over in a frantic behavior.
According to an update in the Google Stadia Discord, it was stated that there’s a problem with those emails currently.
We’re aware that some of you who pre-ordered Founder’s Edition may not have received your invite codes in the expected time-frame. The Stadia team is actively investigating this issue, and we’ll be back with an update as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.
Well, how about that? Now Twitter and Reddit are full of complaints and people shaking their fists in anger about those missing emails. Can you blame them? We were supposed to have this email before the units were delivered to get a headstart and to snag my desired username.
I’m not sure what’s upsetting me more about is the fact that I may end up losing my desired username. Especially since I purchased the Stadia Founders Edition on the very same day it was available. Or the fact that Google didn’t even send me an email/update to this snafu. Had I not checked the Stadia Discord channel, I would have never known.
In the worst-case scenario, someone will snag my name. Which apparently happens a lot more than you’d think would happen. Sure, that may not seem like a big deal to you but I’m quite attached to my internet moniker.
Hopefully, that email arrives soon.
As for Stadia, well, things don’t look too positive. From multiple reports of input delay and poor performance, many have resorted to saying “We told you so”. Despite that and the missing features that were promised but won’t arrive for another few weeks. Despite the lackluster launch lineup, I’m still in. By the end of this week, I’ll take possession of my own Stadia and will be putting it to work.
Maybe it will be terrible, but maybe it will surprise me. Whatever that ends up being, I’m going to give it the benefit of the doubt before anything else. Let me be 10000% clear, I don’t want Stadia to fail. What I do want is for Google to do better!
