Well…that was good while it lasted. Hulu and Marvel/Disney announced earlier in the year that there was going to be a TV series based on the Robbie Reyes version of Ghost Rider. Who was going to be played by Gabriel Luna, who portrayed Robbie Reyson in the beloved 4th season of Agents of Shield. Which made it a sequel series of sorts.
But now though, The Hollywood Reporter is stating that the series has been canned due to “creative differences” between the parties involved. Which is curious for a whole host of reasons. Not the least of which is that Robbie is already established because of Agents of Shield, so the reason clash must have been what they wanted to do with him afterwards.
There are rumors that Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has “other plans” for Robbie Reyes, but as to what those are, and why they would cause the TV show to be canceled is unclear and unconfirmed.
The other irony of the situation is that this show and another, Helstrom, where supposed to connect and make a mini-horror Marvel Universe for the teams to play around with. While Ghost Rider is canceled, Helstrom is apparently still going on. Which is odd because Ghost Rider is much more known in the mainstream than Helstrom.
We’ll have to see how this develops.
