Since its release on September 13th, 2019, Borderlands 3 has sold 5 over million copies. This makes Borderlands 3 the fastest selling 2K game in history, and has generated more than $1 billion in Net Bookings. That’s a lot of scratch and goes to show that fans of the series were glad to finally get their hands on the game.
“The response from the Borderlands 3 fans and community has been overwhelming,” “The mission of Gearbox is to entertain the world and with the record-breaking success of Borderlands 3, we’re excited to take one more giant leap down that road. On behalf of the incredible development team and everyone who has had a hand in making this achievement possible, I extend our warmest thanks to our fans.” — Randy Pitchford, founder of The Gearbox Entertainment Company and Executive Producer of Borderlands 3.
Those 5 million sold comes from a combination of the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. What I’m curious about is the exact number of sales the PC version generated. It’s no secret that there’s a large majority of PC gaming community who aren’t fans of EGS and you have to wonder what the sold numbers would have been if everyone elected to get the game instead of waiting for eventual Steam release in 2020. It will be interesting to see if those figures are released or if those will remain untold. Either way, this is a huge success for 2K games and Gearbox Software.

That said, the launch for Borderlands 3 has been anything but smooth. Reports have been coming in that range from cloud saves not working correctly and corrupting game saves, to several performance issues on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Gearbox assures us they are aware of the issues and are working on patches to correct the problems.
