If there’s any franchise that has fun, it’s Spider-Man. So to announce the release of Spider-Man: Far From Home for digital release, Sony released a trailer for a “new” movie – The Night Monkey.
Of course, fans will know that Night Monkey isn’t some new superhero, but rather just your favorite friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, who gets a bad new identity thanks to Ned. So that Peter doesn’t get outed as Spider-Man during his European vacation, he gets a new outfit from S.H.I.E.L.D. and thus has to adopt a new secret identity. The trailer itself is pretty funny and highlights some of the best jokes from the film itself. It is certainly leagues ahead of the typical trailers you get for these sorts of products.
There’s also a bittersweet note to this trailer, as it could very well be for the last MCU-Sony Spider-Man movie. Disney and Sony failed to come to an agreement over the property, and so Sony would be taking full custody of creating all Spider-Man related content in the future. However, rumors are still abound about how the MCU might get Peter Parker back, including how Apple buying Sony could cause the character to default to Disney. Still, if Sony does make new Spider-Man movies, there’s also no way to know if Tom Holland would still be playing the character, meaning we would get our fourth live-action iteration of Peter Parker. Still, best not to dwell and just enjoy the good times we had with Night Monkey…I mean Spider-Man.
Spider-Man: Far From Home is now available for digital purchase, and will be available on DVD and Blu-ray on October 1, 2019.
