Announced during today’s Inside Xbox Gamescom special live stream, the popular online game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) will receive a crossplay patch. Once this goes into effect later this year, both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will be able to play against and with each other.
As part of the season 4 update, cross-play will finally make it into the game. Something to which many fans of PUBG have been requesting for quite some time. Along with this update will be a new visual overhaul of several maps, weapon balancing and a new battle pass.
I for one am happy to see that yet another game is getting the crossplay treatment. I’ve said for a while now that cross-platform gaming is the next evolution of gaming. Instead of forcing people to pick up another platform to play with family and friends. Now everyone can play on the platform of their choice and still get in some quality gaming.
The only downside is that this patch won’t be live until October 2019, so we’re still a few months out. Well, that and the PC gaming crowd has been omitted from this. Though, I suppose it makes sense the developers likely don’t want to upset console games by pitting them against PC gamers. Though, I feel that should be a choice that the gamers make.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is currently available for the PS4, Xbox One, PC.
