A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, we reported that Disney was looking into make an Obi-Wan solo film in the run up to its first character film, Solo. But then Solo tanked like a spaceship trying to navigate an asteroid field and plans were quietly phased out for the project. But where in there is a will, there is a way and Obi-Wan will live again, but this time as a Disney+ show.
Disney+ is rolling out several shows for the Star Wars franchise, including The Mandalorian and the still untitled prequel to Rogue One featuring Cassian Andor. Now it seems that there will be a third show to bolster the franchise’s presence with the newly added Obi-Wan show. Rumor also has it that Ewan McGregor will be tapped to reprise the role as the Jedi Master who trains and takes down Anakin Skywalker.
No word yet as to whether the show will follow Old Ben in the time between the prequels and the original trilogy, where he is keeping a close eye on Luke as he grows up on Tatooine or if it will be about his time training as a Jedi under Qui-Gon Jinn. Some think that the show will mirror the story of Ben in the individual issues of the comic Star Wars #7, #15, and #20 from back in 2015. This was at a point when he was attempting to train Luke but being denied by his relatives, and getting involved in an event called “The Great Drought”.
Still, nothing’s been locked in yet, so it’s unlikely that it will be ready any time soon. Disney+ is set to start streaming on November 12, 2019 and will have The Mandalorian ready to go.
