Fire Emblem is arguably at its most popular right now. After the success of the Tellius series, then Awakening, Fates, Shadows of Valentia, and the mobile game Fire Emblem Heroes, many are eagerly awaiting the arrival of Fire Emblem Three Houses on Switch in just a few weeks. However, what fans likely didn’t know was that the team at Intelligent Systems didn’t work on this game alone. They actually had help from the team at Koei Tecmo, who helped make the game Fire Emblem Warriors.
Though the team made clear in an interview that the main story and style of the game was them, but Koei Tecmo helped out in a big way in the form of programming the title:
“Regarding the design aspect – Koei Tecmo didn’t do so much. It was especially us at Intelligent Systems who did all of the graphics and design. For example, we had the help of a freelance illustrator Kazuma Koda [Nier Automata, Bayonetta 2] and also Chinatsu Kurahara [Uta no Prince-sama, Tokyo Twilight Ghost Hunters], who was the character designer. My team and I were in charge of designs like weapons, monsters and other details like that. So in design terms, it was mainly Intelligent Systems.”
While that may not sound like a lot of help, the team also noted:
“As far as this game goes, I’m pretty sure that without the help of Koei Tecmo it simply wouldn’t have been possible.”
Or as they noted afterwards, it likely would’ve taken a lot longer to make.
