Some big news coming out of the Remedy camp as the company has acquired the publishing rights to the Alan Wake series from Microsoft. As of this morning, the company released its financial update along with a mention that the Remedy now owns the publishing rights.
What does this mean for the Alan Wake games and possible sequels? A lot, actually. While Remedy had mentioned a while ago that they had been entertaining the idea of more games in the series. Since Microsoft had the publishing rights, it was ultimately up to Microsoft to greenlight any future projects. Yes, Remedy does own the IP, but as long as MS had publishing rights, they couldn’t self-publish or have any other company do it for them.
That all changes now, and while Remedy is currently working on getting Control released for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. This does mean that the company could possibly be interested in revisiting Alan Wake. Or at the very least look at re-releasing that game as an HD remaster and even putting it on the PlayStation 4.
This is fantastic news for Remedy and the fans of the series. It’s easily one of the best horror/action games I’ve played and is still worth a play. If you haven’t played it, you can pick up the entire series on Steam for just $7.49.
